Doug Kalitta Takes Top Fuel Victory at Brainerd

This past weekend, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series returned to Brainerd International Raceway for the NHRA Brainerd Nationals, and Top Fuel once again provided some of the biggest excitement of the weekend. With the championship season getting closer to its final stretch, every round mattered, and the Top Fuel field came ready to put on a show.

Doug Kalitta had an outstanding weekend from start to finish. The reigning Top Fuel world champion qualified No. 1 and continued to show strong performance throughout eliminations. Kalitta eventually reached the final round, where he faced rookie Maddi Gordon. Gordon had an impressive weekend of her own, making it all the way to her first Top Fuel final. (NHRA)

In the final, Kalitta got the job done with a 3.743-second pass at 333.74 mph, earning another Brainerd victory. It was his fourth Top Fuel win at Brainerd International Raceway and another important victory as he continues his championship defense.

Gordon's runner-up finish was also one of the biggest stories of the weekend. After already earning her first career Top Fuel victory earlier this season, the rookie continued to prove that she belongs among the sport's top competitors. Reaching the final against the reigning world champion was another major step in what has been an impressive first season.

The weekend also showed how competitive the Top Fuel class has become. Drivers such as Shawn Langdon, Antron Brown, Tony Schumacher, Justin Ashley and others were all fighting for valuable points and another Wally. With the regular season nearing its end, every qualifying position, round win and bonus point could make a difference in the championship battle.

Overall, Brainerd delivered another memorable weekend of NHRA racing. Kalitta's victory strengthened his championship momentum, while Gordon's final-round appearance gave fans another reason to keep an eye on the rising Top Fuel star. With the season heading toward its most important races, the battle at the top is only getting more intense.
